LED MR16 Lumen Depreciation
We tested LED MR16 bulbs, and found that many have acceptable performance when first installed, but suffer from very severe lumen depreciation and color temperature shift over time. For example in the photos below, we compared two identical 6W MR16 LED light bulbs. The image at left features a brand new light bulb, and the image at right features its twin, after one month of constant operation. The results are shocking. This product lost nearly 50 percent of its lumen output, and its color temperature has shifted noticeably.

The foot candle meter was positioned 18 inches from the light fixture. Neither the light fixture nor the position of the meter were moved in the process of switching from new bulb to used bulb.

Critical to a successful retrofit to LED is smart product selection. We do our best to help our customers make the choices that will work over the long term. Contact us for personalized assistance with your next project.
