Fluorescent Relamping 101

Commercial and industrial facilties using fluorescent light bulbs can save energy and reduce maintenance costs by relamping to newly available longer life and lower wattage energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs, without sacrificing light output.

For example, replace a 32W T8 light bulb with a 25W T8 light bulb, (best suited for enclosed fixtures), or a 28W T8 light bulb, (best suited for light fixtures that leave the bulbs exposed to an air conditioned environment). No ballast change is required, and there is no visible reduction in light output.

Other suggested bulb replacements are as follows:

Replace a 32W u-bent fluorescent T8 light bulb with a 25W version, (six inch leg spacing).

Replace a 31W u-bent fluorescent T8 light bulb with a 29W version, (1 5/8 inch leg spacing).

Replace four pin CFLs as follows: 42W to 33W, 32W to 27W, 26W to 21W or 18W to 14W.

Facility owners and managers will notice an immediate reduction in energy demand and use from changing over to these ultra-high efficient light bulbs. The basic components of any track lighting system are as follows:

1. Track, (typically available in two, four, six, eight and twelve foot lengths, in white, silver and black colors;

2. Track heads, (low voltage halogen, line voltage halogen and incandescent, compact fluorescent, metal halide and LED), in many different shapes and sizes;

3. Track connectors;

4. Power feeds, (cord and plug, end feed for conduit and canopy for junction box);

5. Mounting hardware, (track can be surface mounted directly on the ceiling without additional hardware, or it can be cable or pendant mounted);

LED Undercabinet Lighting

LED general lighting has finally come of age. One of the great new products to appear on the market is the LED undercabinet eW Profile Powercore lighting system from Philips.

The light fixtures themselves are low profile, (less than one inch tall), and come in three lengths, (9.3, 19.3 and 39.3 inches). Two color temperatures are available, (2,700 K - warm white and 4,000 K - cool white). Multimple fixtures can be connected by using end-end connectors or cables, which are available in 6", 12", 18" and 60" lengths. There is also a Y connector. GoodMart stocks these fixtures in white, but black are also available as a special order.

Power is brought to these fixtures via a special junction box or via a cord and switch, which can be plugged in to a standard outlet. The junction box must be connected to the first fixture in a run by a connector cable or an end-to-end connector.

These fixtures are dimmable with a low voltage electronic dimmer.

The Philips eW Profile Powercore LED undercabinet fixtures are a great addition to any kitchen, display case or other application where continuous low profile, ultra-long life and energy efficient lighting is needed.

Simple and cost effective, the GE Sensing HygroTrac takes moisture monitoring to the next level with the launch of the Protimeter HygroTrac. The HygroTrac is a wireless system for monitoring environmental conditions remotely in buildings. The system is ideal for long and short-term monitoring in buildings and facilities at risk for moisture related problems that can lead to property damage and mold growth. This expands GEs line from traditional handheld range moisture meters into the whole new area of remote live monitoring. Revolutionary LED Light Fixtures Enhance Productivity

GoodMart now offers remote control LED light fixtures from GO Lighting Technologies.

These versatile KDT LED fixtures can be controlled with a handheld remote, which is included with each order, and the fixtures can be networked together by CAT3 cable with RJ11 connetors.
